Day 48 – 9th July, 2012 – Maribor, Slovenia

Last night was very hot.  The AC in the room was not functioning.  I opened door of the room towards the Balcony.  But it did not help much.  Then I went to the Reception and found many more delegates complaining similarly.  But Air Cooling of the Hotel could not function in this special hot weather.  Buffet breakfast was as usual in any hotel.  I met a large number of delegates who are my old friends.
The Conference Session began at 9 a.m.   I was given the corner seat of the front row as the Guest of the Conference.  Conference opened with a speech of Edith whose English in French accent was good.  During last couple of Conferences unfurl of IYHF Flag or some formal opening is done away.  I am of the view that Flag of Federation or Hostelling International is very important and must be displayed with some fanfare before the opening of the Conference.  Someday I will express my views to the Board in the future.  Today is most of the time was taken up for explaining the voting by electronic machines and some practice sessions.  In the afternoon, after the lunch I came to my room for some rest as I was not involved in any voting.  I again joined after tea at 4.30 p.m.  In between I walked down to nearby market to Hair Salon but it was closed as it was Monday.
In the evening, all of us went to the river side by bus where large wooden float was anchored.  One by one, we jumped in and sat on the chairs and wooden benches and then there was music and some drinks were served.  These float slabs starting moving towards the other side with continuous live music going on.  At one stage, I was also asked to join the dance.  The float parked on the bank of river.  I was looking for our members who came in any float nearby to their Hotel.  We went to Hotel Pyramida for dinner and drinks.  There was nothing special to mention.  We returned back to hotel Habakuk by bus.  Royte and his wife will leave for Italy tomorrow.  I wish them well in their further travel.
Night was again hot and uncomfortable.
